Privacy Policy

The short version

Blitter does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal information. There is no Blitter account, no Blitter server, and no analytics, tracking, advertising, or crash reporting of any kind. Everything you make stays on your Mac.

The one exception is the optional AI features, which only send text to Google when you explicitly ask them to, using an API key you supply yourself. That is described in full below.

Information Blitter stores on your Mac

Blitter stores the following locally. None of it is transmitted anywhere.

• Your settings. Sequence parameters, colors, grid size, playback options, and window state are saved in macOS user defaults so the app reopens the way you left it.
• Your gallery. Saved setups and their preview thumbnails are written to a folder inside ~/Library/Application Support/.
• Your Google API key, if you choose to enter one. It is stored in the macOS Keychain, protected by the operating system and readable only by your user account. It is never written into saved documents, gallery entries, or exported artwork.

You can remove all of it by deleting the app and that Application Support folder, and by clearing the API key from Settings.

The optional AI features

Blitter includes two optional features that use Google's Gemini API: generating an animation setup from a description, and generating a custom shape from a description.

These features are off unless you supply your own Google API key. They do nothing in the background and never run on their own — they only make a request when you type a description and explicitly ask Blitter to generate something.

When you do:

• The text you typed, plus a fixed instruction prompt describing Blitter's available parameters, is sent directly from your Mac to Google's Gemini API over HTTPS.
• The request is authenticated with your own API key and billed to your own Google account.
• The request does not pass through any Blitter server, because there isn't one. The developer of Blitter never sees, receives, or stores your prompts, your responses, or your API key.
• No images, artwork, gallery items, saved documents, or file contents are ever sent.

Your use of the Gemini API is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy, not this one:

Two points from Google's terms are worth repeating here. First, on Google's unpaid tier, Google states that human reviewers may read and annotate API prompts and responses, and advises against submitting sensitive or confidential information. Attaching a billing account to your key changes how Google may use that data. Second, Google requires that users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom use a billing-enabled ("Paid Services") key.

AI-generated results are provided as-is and may be inaccurate. Review anything you intend to use.

Work you create

Animations, images, sprite sheets, and other files you create and export with Blitter are yours. Blitter claims no ownership of them, does not upload them, and does not inspect them.

Age requirement

Blitter is not directed to children. Because the optional AI features rely on Google's Gemini API, whose terms require users to be 18 or older, those features should not be used by anyone under 18.

Purchases and support

Blitter is sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles all payment processing, billing, and refunds — the developer of Blitter never receives your payment details. Apple's handling of that information is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

If this policy changes in a way that affects how information is handled, the "last updated" date above will change and the revised policy will be posted here.
